A University of Alabama student has been reported missing while on a spring break trip in Barcelona, prompting concern among family, friends, and university officials. James Paul “Jimmy” Gracey, a junior at the university, was last seen in the early hours of the morning, according to his family. His mother, Therese Gracey, said he was last spotted around 3:40 a.m. local time outside the Shoko nightclub in Barcelona. At the time, he was wearing a white shirt, dark pants, and a chain with a gold rhinestone cross. Gracey, originally from Elmhurst, Illinois, is described as approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 175 pounds.
Efforts to locate Gracey are ongoing, with friends and fellow students working to raise awareness about his disappearance. Cavin McLay, president of the Theta Chi fraternity, stated that members have been actively spreading information and coordinating outreach. He added that they have also been in contact with officials, including members of the U.S. Senate and a representative from the White House, in hopes of assisting in the search.
The University of Alabama confirmed that Gracey was traveling on a personal trip and stated that university staff are in communication with his family and those close to him. In a statement, the university emphasized its commitment to providing support and assistance during this difficult time. As the search continues, loved ones remain hopeful for his safe return, while authorities and supporters work together to gather information and determine his whereabouts.
